How To Call Your Children To Come

Have you ever been somewhere and had to call your children to come?  Did you yell your children’s names or shout something else to have your children come?

We have the most economical and effective means to call your children no matter the location.

Believe it or not the call does not involve a cell phone or any device.

You always have this with you unless you are unable to use it.  What is it?

Your Voice

Everyone of my children and us as parents have been trained to respond to a “Aaauuuuu” sound. It is a call that has been passed down through the generations from my wife's great grandma. The sound is hard to write in words but really you make up your own family sound.

Whenever we hear the “Aaauuuuu” sound we go to whomever is making the call.  We have even fined tuned it when out hiking or biking to when we do it once it means stop and if we make the call twice it means come back.  We have friends now that use this call with their children, and other friends that the children respond to the call as well when we do it.

The call will mean nothing if you don’t train your children to respond to it.

Steps To Train Your Children to Respond:

  1. Explain to your children you are introducing a new call for them to come.  Unique to them and when they hear it they are to come to you. (This a wonderful children's  book to help you introduce this to your children.)
  2. Pack some goodies your children like and go on a bike trip or next time at the park and call your children with it.  If they come give them a treat.
  3. Practice Step 2 over and over until you don’t give treats but they do it on their own naturally.  Use to call them inside from playing or down/up from a room or when you roll up to pick them up for a ride.

Having a call for your children is invaluable.  A family call provides something technology can’t always do.

Technology fails and often doesn’t work at all when camping so if all your children know is a text message to come they will be lost when the technology is lost.

Who wants to pull out their phone and text their older children when they’ve gotten too far down the trail?  Or yell and have no one respond when your children have gotten too far or have gone around a bend in the trail...  No thanks!  You are on the trail to enjoy the trail, the outdoors and family time.

A family call is like seeing two shepherds passing their herds.  If you haven’t seen it do an internet search and see how the shepherds use their own unique whistle to keep their sheep following them and not the other shepherd.  Pretty amazing!

Having A Family Call Is Invaluable!

Do you have one?  If so what is yours?  Have seen this work?
